This trip will take you by bus from hotel Ilves to the harbor of Vuorihotelli in Sastamala. From the harbor you will get aboard m/s Liekovesi for a cruise around lakes Kulovesi, Rautavesi and Liekovesi combined with visits to the old stone churches dedicated to St. Olaf and St. Mary.
St. Mary’s church is the oldest in Sastamala, built around the end of 15th century. The church was renovated in 1960’s but the interior dates back to medieval age.
St. Olaf’s church dates back to early 16th century but was almost completely destroyed by arson in 1997. The church was rebuilt by volunteers, and the exterior is quite similar to original medieval church with unique shingle roof. Interior of the church is a work of art of two Finnish painters, Osmo Rauhala and Kuutti Lavonen, rephrasing the themes that existed before the arsony.
